Hardware Build - With the REB PCB

Building a Rose Engine Butler: 1. Parts · 2. Common build steps · 3a. With the REB PCB · 3b. Without the PCB · 4. Software

This page is for building the boxes with the REB circuit board. The board connects the Mesa 7i92TH card to the DM542T drivers, the limit jacks, the E-stop button and the signal tower, and has the signal tower's relays built in.

This page is an outline. It will be completed when the PCB design is final.

Before starting:

Network Connections

One board, two boxes

Both boxes use the same PCB. The expansion box's board has fewer parts fitted:

Part of the PCB Base box Expansion box
Driver connections 6 (channels 00 - 05) 4 (channels 06 - 09)
Limit jack connections 3 (Limit Jacks 1 - 3) 3 (Limit Jacks 4 - 6)
E-stop button connection Fitted Not fitted
Signal tower relays Fitted Not fitted
Mesa card headers used P1 and P2 P2 only
Other parts To be completed To be completed

Assembling the PCB

To be completed - which parts are fitted for each box, and in what order.

Base Box

Mounting the PCB

To be completed

Mesa card to PCB

Two IDC26 ribbon cables (part 1401), from the card's P2 and P1 headers to the PCB. To be completed - which PCB connector each goes to, and the red stripe (pin 1) orientation.

PCB to the DM542T drivers

Two IDC6 ribbon cables for each driver (part 1402). To be completed - which PCB connector is which channel, and how each cable connects at the driver.

Limit jacks, E-stop button and signal tower

To be completed - where the jacks connect to the PCB. The signal tower's relays are on the PCB, so the tower's jack connects to it directly; see Signal Tower Relays for what the relays switch.

Expansion Box

Mounting the PCB

To be completed

Mesa card to PCB

One IDC26 ribbon cable, from the expansion card's P2 header to the PCB (its P1 isn't used). To be completed - which PCB connector, and the red stripe orientation.

PCB to the DM542T drivers

Two IDC6 ribbon cables for each of the 4 drivers (part 2402). To be completed

Limit jacks

To be completed

Which pin does what

The PCB carries each signal to the same Mesa card pin as a breakout-board build, so the software doesn't need to know which build a machine is. The full map is on Mesa 7i92TH Pin Mapping.
